Year 6 Poetry
Carroll Class and Morpurgo Class have produced some lovely non-chronological reports about owls and some imaginative blackout poetry. Both of these tasks are linked to our current novel, Skellig by David Almond. For the non-chronological reports, students were asked to take notes about owls and then used formal lingual and technical vocabulary to ensure that their writing was mature. The themes of flight, birds and chicks run throughout the text. For the blackout poetry, pupils chose pages from the text, then created poems from the words on the page, blacking out the rest of the words. They were unsure about starting this poetry task, but surprised themselves with how successful they were. Through this, we discussed resilience – keep having a go, even though you are not in your comfort zone! Well done year 6!
