Reception – ‘Donaldson’ and ‘Jeffers’
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our Reception Classes. Our staff provide a nurturing, happy and stimulating environment to ensure our children experience the best possible transition into school life. We plan and provide a balance of both child initiated and adult led activities which enable children to become independent, confident, resilient and inquisitive individuals. Our rich and stimulating environment enables children to explore the world around them, make discoveries and develop their problem solving skills through appropriate challenge. We respond to the needs of each individual following both the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory framework and The National Curriculum for Year 1.
PE & Swimming
Reception PE and Swimming sessions will take place every Wednesday. Children must come to school dressed in their PE kits and will continue to wear them for the rest of the day. PE kit is a white t-shirt, blue or navy shorts and suitable footwear (trainers or pumps). Please ensure children come to school with the appropriate swimming kit in a waterproof bag.
Children with earrings must remove them for PE and Swimming or cover with tape if they have just been pierced. Long hair must be tied back for both PE and Swimming.
In Reception all children will receive weekly homework which will include Maths, Spelling and Reading. This will be set on a Friday and due back the following Friday. It is an expectation that all children complete their homework within this time frame.
All children will have two reading books and one ‘choosing’ book in their book bags. It is important that stories are shared with children on a daily basis. Please sign diaries so that we can share your child’s reading journey at home and in school.
All children will have a plastic ‘Sounds Pouch’. Class teachers will provide weekly updates of which cards need adding to sound pouches.

We will continue to document your child’s learning through Tapestry for both Reception and Year 1 pupils. We welcome contributions to your child’s learning journey so if your child amazed you at home by learning and applying something new, please share it with us. We would love to see!

In Forest School Donaldson class read one of their advent stories ‘Pick a Pine Tree’. They spotted some pine trees in the forest and decorated them, they had to be careful as they were prickly! Their forest looked very festive afterwards!
