Reception – ‘Donaldson’ and ‘Jeffers’

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our Reception Classes. Our staff provide a nurturing, happy and stimulating environment to ensure our children experience the best possible transition into school life. We plan and provide a balance of both child initiated and adult led activities which enable children to become independent, confident, resilient and inquisitive individuals. Our rich and stimulating environment enables children to explore the world around them, make discoveries and develop their problem solving skills through appropriate challenge. We respond to the needs of each individual following both the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory framework and The National Curriculum for Year 1.

PE & Swimming

Reception PE and Swimming sessions will take place every Wednesday.  Children must come to school dressed in their PE kits and will continue to wear them for the rest of the day. PE kit is a white t-shirt, blue or navy shorts and suitable footwear (trainers or pumps). Please ensure children come to school with the appropriate swimming kit in a waterproof bag.

Children with earrings must remove them for PE and Swimming or cover with tape if they have just been pierced. Long hair must be tied back for both PE and Swimming.

In Reception all children will receive weekly homework which will include Maths, Spelling and Reading. This will be set on a Friday and due back the following Friday. It is an expectation that all children complete their homework within this time frame.

All children will have two reading books and one ‘choosing’ book in their book bags. It is important that stories are shared with children on a daily basis. Please sign diaries so that we can share your child’s reading journey at home and in school.

All children will have a plastic ‘Sounds Pouch’. Class teachers will provide weekly updates of which cards need adding to sound pouches.
Reception- Read Write Inc Set 1 Cards

We will continue to document your child’s learning through Tapestry for both Reception and Year 1 pupils. We welcome contributions to your child’s learning journey so if your child amazed you at home by learning and applying something new, please share it with us. We would love to see!

Please contact your child’s class teacher if you are having trouble accessing your
child’s Tapestry account.

Music To My Ears

Reception enjoyed a music session with Mr Benson. We recapped some of the instruments we learnt about previously. We learnt that when people sing as a group it is called a choir. The style of singing was ‘my turn, your turn’, the children listened first then sang what we had heard. We had lots of […]

Reception Children Spring into Action

In Reception we have continued our focus on Spring and have spent lots of time outdoors! We have read a variety of fiction and non-fiction books linking to Spring, as well as other versions of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We discovered so many signs of Spring this week in Forest School. I wonder if any […]

Festive Fun!

In Forest School Donaldson class read one of their advent stories ‘Pick a Pine Tree’. They spotted some pine trees in the forest and decorated them, they had to be careful as they were prickly! Their forest looked very festive afterwards!

Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs

Reception/Year 1’s story of the week has been ‘Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs’ which they have absolutely loved! The children were excited to find a letter in a bottle just like the one Katy had sent. They wrote letters back to Katy asking her questions to help them find out where she was. The […]

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

This morning we have been very busy building a bridge for the Billy Goats Gruff to cross. We also made traps for the mean troll.

What an exciting week it’s been! On Tuesday we had some very special visitors, The Owl Man and his wonderful collection of owls. The children all listened carefully to the interesting facts that we were told about each of the owls. We were very fortunate to see one of the owls fly across the hall! […]
