Ellesmere Primary School became part of North West Academies Trust in 2016.

North West Academies Trust (NWAT) Governance

Representatives of the Trust visit to see the children at work, and how they benefit from the positive changes implemented since we became Grosvenor Park C of E Academy.

NWAT has the power to monitor the role of the Academy at an operational day-to-day level and review:

  • The management and organisation of the Academy.
  • The implementation of the decisions of the Executive Headteacher.
  • Performance in relation to targets and standards.
  • The implementation of policies monitoring student welfare and behaviour.
  • The implementation of policies.
  • The implementation of all extended school activities.

Michael ForberMichael Forber is the Executive Headteacher of Somerville Federation and has a genuine working knowledge of improving outcomes for children. In his own educational career he has removed two schools from OFSTED categories and been praised by the DFE twice for raising attainment and achievement in schools which had previously been at the lowest possible level. He is an experienced Nursery and Primary School Headteacher able to support the governors with school leadership and management knowledge.
Adrian WalmsleyAdrian is a former member of Cheshire West and Chester Council, where he was Chairman of its Licensing Committee. He was a council representative at the University of Chester and also at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust. He is a Governor at The Queen's School, Chester, Upton-by-Chester High School and St Martin's Academy, Chester.
Iain ColledgeIain is a Director of World Academies, a company dedicated to international school start-ups and development. He has been in leadership roles in four British international schools and in each he has significantly improved the quality of education and grown the school beyond expectations. He has been a governor in a state primary school and carried out various consultancy roles to improve school standards and develop leadership and management in primary and secondary schools.
Brendan WignallBrendan Wignall is Headmaster at Ellesmere College, a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils between the ages of 7-18. Brendan is also Chair of Governors at St Martin's Academy; Chair of the national dyslexia accreditation charity, CReSTeD; and serves on the Membership and Finance committees of HMC, the leading association for independent school heads and principals.

The Governance structure for Ellesmere Primary School

Governors are selected by application and interview, and our Governing body has a mixture of different people with different key skills. However, all Governors share a common goal and purpose in that they want the very best for the pupils who attend.

    Headteacher

    Stuart began his teaching career in 2005 after a successful career in IT left him wanting a different challenge. He has taught children throughout the primary age range, from reception to Year 6 in a number of good and outstanding primary school settings. He has been the Assistant Head at St Martin's Academy, in Chester, for the last 3 years, and has helped to develop the outstanding teaching and learning in that setting. He has been a KS2 Phase Leader and a member of the senior management team for a number of years in his previous school. Stuart is also a Computing At School Master Teacher (Level 2) and has helped to shape the way the computing curriculum is being delivered. He is passionate about providing the very best education to all of the children in his care.

    Vicki is an experienced member of our team having taught across KS2 for the past 11 years. She is particularly experienced in year 6 with regard to SATs preparation and end of Key Stage expectations. Vicki is our English lead with responsibility for writing development throughout the school. Vicki is also a moderator for the county. Outside school Vicki enjoys swimming, travelling, eating out and spending time with family. Vicki spent a year living in Australia and is hoping to return for an extended holiday soon!

    I started as a Community Governor in 2010, and chaired the Finance Committee for a time.
    I moved into the area about ten years ago, and all four of my children attended Ellesmere Primary School.
    Before moving Ellesmere, I was a project manager in the supply and distribution industry from there I progressed in the IT side of the business. I set up the original school website and wrote the recently updated site.
    I enjoy Rugby and have coached junior sides at Oswestry RFC (where I am the current mini and junior chairman) and at Ellesmere Primary School.

    I am one of the parent governors at Ellesmere Primary School, I joined in June 2013 and chair the Pupil Progress committee and am the link governor for English.
    I moved to Ellesmere from Wrexham six years ago and my daughter Olivia is now in year five. I have been a teacher within Shropshire for twenty years and even taught in Ellesmere Primary many moons ago. I am now a self-employed tutor of English and maths and work as an inspector for Ofsted, I am joint secretary on the school PTA.
    In my spare time I enjoy days out with the family, gardening and reading.

    I moved to Ellesmere in 2013 (from St Martins) and my youngest two children are at Ellesmere Primary, having attended Ducklings and Nursery previously. I care deeply about this school, both as the learning environment for my own children and in a wider sense as a vital part of this community.
    I am a qualified teacher of English (secondary) although not currently teaching. Over the years, I have worked as a nursery nurse, a retail supervisor and a local government clerk. I also served as a Parish Councillor for many years. I volunteer with several charities that support bereaved families. I enjoy drama, music, walking with my dogs in the hills of Shropshire and Wales, reading, and knitting.

    Sue has been at school for more than 30 years in various roles and is currently responsible for teaching swimming across the whole school. She enjoys outdoor activities including walking, canoeing and body-boarding. Other hobbies include landscape photography and she particularly likes early morning walks to photograph sunrises.

    Elli started at school as an apprentice teaching assistant in April 2014. In her spare time she enjoys going to the cinema and spending time with family and friends.

    Mary works as an Assistant Club Leader providing wrap around care to children in Merekats After School Club. She enjoys preparing and doing craft activities with the children. In her free time she makes cards and is also a keen gardener and loves spending time with her family.

    Pat has worked at the school for a number of years holding a number of positions including that of TA level 3. She is currently one of our senior lunchtime supervisors and is leader of our after school care club, Merekats. In her spare time Pat enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

    Sonia has worked at Ellesmere since 2001 as a valued member of the premises team ensuring the school is kept clean and tidy on a daily basis. Sonia enjoys spending time with family and friends and is an active member in her community looking after the elderly.

    Annette transports and serves our meals to a local school. She has wide experience and is a Level 3 qualified Teaching Assistant. In her spare time Annette enjoys doing crafts.

    Marie is an experienced member of our kitchen team who originally started work at Ellesmere 10 years ago but who has recently stepped up and taken on more responsibility in the preparation of food and assisting the head cook. Marie is also part of the school's premises team and provides support in ensuring the school is clean and tidy. She enjoys family life with her husband and 2 daughters.

    Sharon started working at Ellesmere Primary School in 2012 as a first aid lunchtime supervisor. In 2017 she joined the catering team as an assistant head cook. She has three children who have all attended Ellesmere Primary. In her free time Sharon is a member of Mere Runners, a local running group, she also enjoys spending time wither family and dog.

    Laura previously worked as a Local Government Officer within the Transport department of Cheshire East Council (formally Cheshire County Council) before joining the school in April 2013. Laura oversees the smooth running of the day to day business requirements of the school office. She spends most of her spare time up on the Llyn Peninsula with her husband and pet Labrador.

    Katie joined the office team at Ellesmere Primary School in September 2015. She has completed her Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration; having completed her Level 2 NVQ qualification in Business Administration working as a Medical Secretary. Katie would like to continue learning and gain qualifications in management. She is currently on the PTA and holds the role of Secretary. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her son and daughter, being creative, designing and producing crafts.

    Millie has been working at Ellesmere Primary School as a Midday Assistant for 5 years. She has now joined the office team and is looking forward to the new challenges this will bring. Millie enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband and also enjoys getting arty with various craft projects.

    Yvonne has worked at the school for a number of years and has moved into Key Stage 2 supporting a SEN child.
    She is a member of the Girl Guiding movement and she currently runs a Rainbow and Brownie pack in her spare time.

    SEN Teaching Assistant and Music Teacher

    Rachel has been a Teaching Assistant for ten years, particularly aiding and supporting pupils with special educational needs across the age ranges. Following an HND in Business Studies and a Certificate in Adult Training, she took Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Her particular responsibilities are with the Behaviour Team, Makaton and First Aid. Leisure time pursuits include music, local choir, musical theatre and walking.

    Sue has worked at the school as a teaching assistant for 5 years and a SEN support for 4 years.
    She currently runs a Cool Kids exercise programme and a reading support group.
    In her leisure time she enjoys walking her dog.

    Judith has worked as a teaching assistant at the school for a number of years, mainly in KS1. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and walking her dog.

  • Mrs Kaye Garbett

    EYFS Teaching Assistant

    Kaye is a qualified Nursery Nurse who began working at Ellesmere Primary when its Nursery was first opened in September 1983. After 26 years in this post Kaye moved to support children in a Reception/Yr 1 class. Currently Kaye provides support in a Reception class whilst also working with intervention groups in Y1 and some sessions in Nursery.
    In her spare time Kaye enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, photography, reading and eating out.

  • Mrs Lorna Walford

    EYFS Teaching Assistant

    Lorna has worked as a Teaching Assistant at Ellesmere Primary for several years. She has worked as a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant within school and currently works in the Early Years Department which she really enjoys. Outside school Lorna enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking and finding fun ways to try to keep fit!

    EYFS Teaching Assistant

    Lucy has worked at Ellesmere Primary school for several years. Lucy is a qualified N.N.E.B nursery nurse in the Early years department of the school. Lucy enjoys spending time with her family.

  • Mrs Marie Rowe

    KS2 Higher Learning Teaching Assistant

    Marie is a qualified Primary Teacher with experience in working with young people learning difficulties and disabilities. She is currently Phase HLTA for Upper Key Stage Two. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her young family in the great outdoors and baking.

    KS2 Higher Learning Teaching Assistant

    Jess completed her degree in Childhood and Youth studies through The Open University. She is now the Phase HLTA for Lower Key Stage 2. Outside school, Jess loves to spend time with her family.

  • Mrs Anne-Marie Wynn

    KS1 Higher Learning Teacher Assistant

    Anne-Marie is a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant with over 17 years experience. She has worked across all key stages and is currently leading interventions across Early Years Foundation and Key Stage 1. She is a Phase leader, within this role she plans and delivers PPA cover to allow teaching staff release time from class.
    Anne-Marie is a dedicated member of staff who is passionate about Special Educational Needs, especially Speech and Language. She delivers the TALKBOOST intervention programme to support children's communication and language development.
    Anne-Marie is a trained co facilitator for the Solihull Approach and is part of the team delivering the Understanding Your Child course to both parents and staff at Ellesmere Primary and surrounding primary schools.
    Outside of school Anne-Marie enjoys Pilates, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

    Molly completed a BA(Hons) Degree in Primary Education, specialising in Early Years. She has worked in the Early Years department for a few years.
    Molly enjoys spending time with family and friends.

  • Mrs Tammy Griffiths

    EYFS Teaching Assistant and Forest School Leader

    Tammy is an experienced Nursery Nurse who has worked in our school for over twenty years. She works within the EYFS team and loves working with our youngest children. She is a qualified Forest School leader and leads all year groups across each key stage of the school. She is passionate about outdoor learning and the benefits to children. As a parent and member of staff Tammy enjoys being a member on the school PTA and has raised thousands of pounds for the school over the years.

  • Mrs Sue Powell

    KS2 Higher Learning Teaching Assistant and Learning Mentor

    Sue’s role in school is to provide support for all students and their families who may be going through a difficult time and to encourage and motivate all children to do their best.
    Sue is a trained co facilitator for the Solihull Approach and is part of the team delivering the Understanding Your Child course to both parents and staff at Ellesmere Primary and surrounding primary schools.
    Sue also runs our school breakfast club.

    BA (Hons) QTS In Primary Education With Environmental Studies

    Suzanne is an experienced member of our teaching team. She graduated from Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside in 1997 and has taught in a number of schools in different counties. She currently teaches in year 6, where she enjoys the balance of the challenge of SATs preparation with the week's residential and end of year performance. Suzanne has two children who have both attended Ellesmere Primary School. Her family enjoys walking and mountain biking with their dog, Buddy.

    Emily completed her degree in Primary Education at The University of Chester last Summer. Since then she has worked as a supply teacher in the Wrexham area before joining us at Ellesmere. She is now the year 5 teacher for Moscow class.
    Outside school Emily enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going to the gym and visiting new places.

  • Miss Chloe Thomas

    Istanbul (Year 5) Class Teacher

    Chloe qualified as a Primary School Teacher in 2018 from the University of Wales, Trinity St David. She is currently studying a Masters in Education at Glyndwr University. Outside school she enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.

  • Mrs Gemma Masey

    Moscow (Year 5) Class Teacher

    BEd (Hons)

    Gemma is a new member of the team who teaches Washington class in Year Four. Before completing her Post Graduate Certificate in Education with Edge Hill University, she trained and worked as a HLTA in a primary school in Wrexham for five years, working across all ages. Alongside her HLTA work, she gained an Honours Degree in Education with Glyndwr University. In her spare time she enjoys family days, dog walking and learning to play the guitar. She has a passion for music and drama which she loves to incorporate into her lessons.

    Jade completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree in Primary Education and has taught within Key Stage One and Two over the last four years. Jade is also a qualified Women’s Artistic gymnastics coach and club judge, having coached competitive gymnastics for over 6 years. Jade enjoys mountain biking, indoor climbing and bouldering and walking with her dogs in her spare time.

    Samantha Clarke completed her B.ed. at Edge Hill, and has come to us from Whittington Primary School, where she worked as both a T.A. and a class teacher. She has worked in a year four class for the last three years. She is married with two children. In her spare time, she enjoys amateur dramatics, and has been in a number of performances in Ellesmere.

    Kate is an experienced teacher having taught for over twenty years across both key stages. In the past, she has travelled widely gaining an insight into many different cultures. Now she is settled with a family and enjoys yoga, swimming and reading.

    Kelly is now in her second year of teaching at Ellesmere after completing her NQT year here last year. She is one of our year 5 teachers and the IT and Science lead. Kelly completed her PGCE with the West Midlands Consortium. She previously worked as a teaching assistant in Cheshire schools for 7 years whilst also studying towards her BA Hons degree in Education. In her spare time Kelly enjoys playing netball for her local team, spending time with friends and family, cooking and long walks with her dog.

    Jessie completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education at Chester University, having had placements across both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Previous to that, she completed a three year Bachelor of Arts (with hons) degree in Education and Early Childhood Studies and currently works in Sydney class. Jessie has a strong passion for music and the arts. Outside school she enjoys playing the violin, visiting new places with her friends, and spending time with her family.

    Sarah is an experienced Key Stage One teacher. She graduated from Staffordshire University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in European Studies and International Relations. After a few years working in France as a holiday representative she studied a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. In her spare time she likes travelling, mountain biking, surfing, skiing and hiking.

  • Miss Lara Hopkins

    Lisbon (Year 2) Class Teacher

    Lara qualified as a Primary school teacher in 2018. Prior to this she worked in a nursery class for 3 years. She has a BA Honors Degree in English, a Postgraduate Certificate in Early Years Practice (with Early Years Teacher Status) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. In her spare time, she often visits family in Germany. She also enjoys travelling, baking and walking her two dogs.

    Gemma completed her BEd (Hons) degree at Chester University. She is Key Stage One Phase Lead and enjoys working in a team with her colleagues. Gemme currently teaches Year 1 in Paris class. Gemma has experience in working across KS1 and has a passion in supporting and enhancing children’s experiences throughout this phase. She enjoys coaching sports and organising educations trips. Outside of school Gemma plays netball in the local league and enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

    Gemma completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Edge Hill University. Previously she gained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sport Development and a Postgraduate Master of Research in Sport Science degree at Glyndwr University. Before she began her teaching career she was a lifeguard and teaching assistant which sparked her passion for teaching. Gemma has previously taught year 3 and is now one of our year 1 teachers. Gemma enjoys playing and coaching sport. She plays golf for the county and regularly swims, cycles and plays hockey. Outside of school she enjoys baking, spending time with family and friends and walking her dog.

    Wales (Reception) Class Teacher

    Sarah completed a BA Hons degree in Early Childhood Studies followed by a PGCE in Early Years. She worked for five years teaching in Early Years and Year 1 and then moved to another school where she worked as a HLTA and TA whilst my two boys were very young. In her spare time Sarah enjoys spending time out in the countryside with her family and dog. Sarah is a keen runner and has completed a number of 10k races and the Shrewsbury half marathon.

    Rebecca completed her BA Hons degree in Primary Education at Glyndwr University in Wrexham. She has been teaching at Ellesmere Primary School for five years, having spent one year as a HLTA, two years in Year 1 and a further two years in EYFS. In her spare time Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family and visiting new places.

    England (Nursery) Class Teacher

    BA (Hons), PGCE

    Linda is the Nursery Teacher and EYFS Phase Lead. Linda studied at Manchester Metropolitan University gaining a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education (3-7years) and a PGCE. She has a passion for Early Years education and has had considerable experience in both the maintained and non-maintained sectors, in further education as an Early Years NVQ assessor and also working within the Local Authority Early Years Advisory Team . Linda is a qualified Forest School leader and loves the outdoors. She has lived abroad in Germany and Cyprus and, outside school, enjoys walking, reading and spending time with her family.
