Year 5 outside inspiration
Our school grounds were the inspiration this week as we study the work of William Morris.
Year 5 have been learning about the designer William Morris as part of their Victorian topic. After creating a biography, we compared different designs, looking for the links and discussing what we liked and didn’t like. We discovered that his designs were inspired by a time of piece, so were relaxing and used rich colours. In addition, much of his work took inspiration from the natural world, with patterns of leaves, flowers and berries.
On Friday, we walked around the school grounds, looking for leaves, flowers and plants to inspire our own designs. We used Pic Collage to create a mood board of the photos we took.
We are now using these to create our own sketches, before creating a final design. We will think about using repetitive shapes and selecting an appropriate colour palette. Over the next few weeks, we will be making own material, using acrylic paints and drawing ink, before sewing our own William Morris inspired cushions.
We will keep you posted on out progress!
