Year 1 recreate Pudding Lane

Children in Year 1, recreated Pudding Lane and The Great Fire of London in topic work.

This week in topic, children finished off making their houses which they had previously designed. The children used a number of materials and techniques to create the houses. On Thursday, Year 1 and Year 2 worked together to join the houses together to create Pudding Lane. It was really exciting and whilst the houses were burning the children sang ‘London’s Burning’ . This marked the end of our unit of work on ‘The Great Fire of London’. On Friday children had the opportunity to choose what they would like to learn about next. The options were: The Olympics, Guy Fawkes and Remembrance/World Wars. Children will be working in new topic groups next week to find out more about their chosen event before creating a final piece of work to exhibit at the end of this half term.
This week in maths, Madrid and Paris have continued to practice their counting, focusing on numbers 0-30. We have used teacher led and child initiated activities to read, write and count these numbers. In their child initiated learning children have been representing numbers in numerous ways to ensure that children know that the digits in a number have a value. Next week we will be moving our counting forward and focusing on numbers 0-40.

In English, we have had our final week of work based on the story ‘My Brother’. Children have combined their understanding of labels and captions to create a final piece of work on a family member. In the piece of work children have applied their understanding of finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. In English next week, children will be starting a new unit of work based on the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

Children have learnt how to classify animals into mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, insects and fish in Science this week. We practically sorted a number of animals into the different categories. We will be continuing to use this understanding to make classification posters next week.

Paris class have now come to the end of an exciting three weeks in Forest School. Next week children in Madrid class will be going to Forest School on a Thursday afternoon.
