This week in Year 1 we have had a wizard in the classroom who has left a package of potions! The children have been busy exploring the potions by measuring the capacity of the bottles.
In maths this week children have also continued to explore measurement through finding out the length of objects. We have worked in both standard and non standard units. During child initiated learning children have continued to reinforce their understanding of addition and subtraction, measured objects independently and found out how many socks long they are! Next week children will also be introduced to weight.
In English this week we have continued to explore the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. We have put our understanding of exclamation marks and question marks into practice whilst planning our own letter. Children have picked a colour to write a letter to Duncan about and why they need a break! All child initiated learning has been centered around the book from reading letters to writing apology letters from Duncan to the crayons. Next week children will be creating final versions of their writing.
In science children have been looking at seasons. We have talked about the weather that you will find in the different seasons and also the different clothes that you may wear during these seasons. Over the next week, children will be keeping a weather diary to compare the weather each day.
In PE children have started rugby, gymnastics and fitness training. We had a very muddy rugby session on Thursday! The children weer very lucky to have Mr Pascoe come in and help with the lesson and share his understanding with the children.
