Istanbul and Moscow’s orienteering outing to Shropshire Hills
On Wednesday 8th March, Istanbul and Moscow travelled by coach to Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Craven Arms, to navigate their way around Onny Meadows orienteering course. This is one of their PE objectives to practise orienteering away from the school site. This was our first adventure to this site – everyone was very excited!
Luckily, the weather was a beautiful, crisp spring day. We started our day learning compass skills and how to create and navigate our way around our own course. We had to ensure we kept our maps North! – Not as easy as it looks!
During the afternoon, the children worked in small groups armed with a map and a compass to perfect their skills independently.
Quotations from the day
“We all had a brilliant time and so much fun.” Thomas from Istanbul.
“It was the best year 5 trip yet!” Oliver from Moscow.
