Harvest Morning in Year 1
We had a wonderful morning on Wednesday with our Harvest Festival celebrations. Thank you to all the parents, Grandparents, brothers and sisters that attended the morning, it was lovely to see you all.
During the Harvest morning the children moved around four different activities with their family member. They made scarecrows, Harvest cards, corn art and learnt a Harvest song. It was great to see the children having fun as they moved around the different activities.
In Maths this week we have been continuing our work on number sense. Children have been working on reading, writing and counting numbers to 40. Through child initiated learning children have been showing numbers using numicon, counting with dot-to-dots, creating shape pictures and filling in missing number tracks. Over the past few weeks the children have been working incredibly hard on numbers and we have seen a huge improvement in their number understanding. Next week we will be continuing with numbers 0-40 but concentrating on place value and making numbers with dienes apparatus.
In English we have had our final week on the story ‘My Brother’. In teacher groups throughout the week children have drawn a family member, wrote labels about that family member and a caption. Throughout the unit of work the class have worked really hard on making sure they use their sounds, finger spaces, full stops and capital letters. Next week they will be moving onto a new unit work, traditional tales. We will be reading and writing our own traditional tale based on ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
In PE we have continued with netball and football. In netball we have been using a chest pass to accurately pass the ball to a partner. In football we have been working on dribbling around people with control.
