Happy Valentines’ Day!
The Day it Rained Hearts
We read this story by Felicia Bond as an introduction to Valentine’s Week. It is a lovely story about a little girl who send Valentine’s messages to the people she loves. The children wrote messages on heart shaped paper to the people that they loved – their friends, their families, their teachers and their pets!
When we start a new theme, we always begin with a question and make a ‘mind-map’ of the children’s thoughts, views, opinions and ideas? We asked the children “What is Love?” . We talked about who we loved, how it feels to be loved and how we know that we are loved. The children made their own mind-maps.
They expressed such joy and understanding of their own feelings.
Cards and gifts!
We made cards for the people we love and also cooked up some chocolate fudge – milk chocolate with heart sprinkles and white chocolate with cranberries. We packed it up into little bags, wrote labels and messages and gave the fudge to our loved ones. The children really hoped that their loved ones who share it with them!
