When we were finding out about our bodies, we thought of lots of different ways we can move. We drew pictures of ourselves walking, running, jumping, dancing, hopping and skipping. We then tried to represent the movements themselves in our drawings – we did lots of spirals and circles for twirling, zig-zag lines for jumping up and down, and straight lines with a circle for hopping. The children had some amazing ideas and used lots of lines, shapes and patterns which we also use when we are writing and learning to form our letters. Great practise!
The children were then provided with clay and very bendy modelling wire (more fine motor practise for building hand-strength and co-ordination) to explore and to find out if they could make models of themselves moving. The sculptures they made were astounding!
