We are all special!

On Friday the whole school wore red as we all showed racism the red card.  In Nursery we talked about how we all come in different shapes and sizes, how we have different interests, like different things and how we are all special.  We read the book “All Kinds of People” by Emma Damon, talked about the pictures and ourselves and looked at the special person who we saw when we looked into the mirror in the book.  We talked about the colour of our skin, hair and eyes and even our shoes!

One of our children said “I think we are all made of lots of different colours.”

Some children were inspired to paint pictures of themselves which led to lots of talk about matching and mixing colours for our skin, hair and eyes.

Only One You!

As part of our “Good to Be Green” afternoon, we joined in with a special arts afternoon and painted the pebbles we have been collecting all week.  We read the story “Only One You” by Linda Kranz and painted our stones to look like a fish.  The Nursery teachers have been so impressed by the care and thought with which the children worked.  Fantastic painting Nursery boys and girls!

Making stories come alive!

This week we have been reading other stories about bears, we even found a ‘bear’ story in our outdoor book box.  Look what happened after we read the story!

The children re-created the bear’s party!

Oaty Breakfast Bars!

In our Ready, Steady, Cook session this week we used up the last of our porridge oats from our Goldilocks and the Three Bears activities to make oaty breakfast bars with apricots, cherries and raisins.  They were delicious!

Making Maths Marvellous!

On Thursday evening Mrs MacDonald enjoyed spending time in the company of parents as we explored how young children learn about numbers and counting in Nursery and how to support this learning at home.  A big thank you to all those who attended and we hope you found it informative, enjoyable and helpful.   We will shortly be sending out details of a second information evening when we will talk about enjoying stories, letters and sounds and becoming readers and writers.

We are now ready for a half-term break.  Our theme for our first week back will be “Stomp! Chomp! Munch! Roars! Here Come the Dinosaurs!” based around the book “Dinosaur Roar!” by Paul and Henrietta Stickland.

Enjoy the break everyone and get ready for another busy half-term!
