10 Things I can do to help my World
This week we shared the bright, bold and wonderfully illustrated book, ’10 things I can do to help my world,’ By Melanie Walsh.
It was a great introduction for our young children to begin to understand the importance of taking care of our world and ways we are able to help. We had lots of discussion and some children shared ways they help when they are at home.
Scotland and Wales Class talked about the weather. Some were concerned that in the cold and icy conditions some birds would struggle to eat. We decided it would be a great opportunity to help. Everyone collected a toilet roll tube and brought it in to school. We spread peanut butter all over it and then rolled it in bird seed. The children created and wrote name labels for their bird feeder. They threaded string through their rolls and finally went in search for the ‘perfect’ branch to hang them from.
