We had a brilliant start to our week with the travelling pantomime M & M Theatrical Production visiting school on Monday.
It was a fantastic, funny show with lots of opportunities for the children and teachers to participate. We are most definitely in the Christmas spirit in Year 1!
This week in English, children have started a new unit of work on instruction writing. We started our week off by looking at the features of instructions. As a class we decided that a good set of instructions needs to include a title, list of ingredients/equipment, a method and ‘bossy verbs’. Children then used this understanding to write a set of instructions on how to make salt dough. An additional teacher group has been focusing on reading instructions to make a Christmas card. The final teacher group followed verbal instructions to decorate a salt dough Christmas decorations. The main focus for instruction writing has been to be able to sequence sentences correctly. Next week we will continue to focus on instruction writing.
Maths and Reading
In Maths and reading this week, children have been completing assessments. All children have worked incredibly hard to show us what they know, well done Year 1!
We have been working hard during the afternoons to rehearse our Christmas play. Next week we will continue to rehearse the play and will have the opportunity to show Key Stage 2 our performance on Friday.
