Nursery have been learning about the Royal Family and the forthcoming Royal Wedding.

We watched lots of footage from previous Royal Weddings and the children talked about the weddings they had attended.  We learned lots of new vocabulary.

Royal Dress Designers

The children talked about wedding clothes and enjoyed dressing up as soldiers, bridesmaids, queens and princesses.  We drew pictures of what we thought Meghan Markle would wear and designed two different wedding dresses.

Wedding Cake

It took us several baking sessions to make and decorate a four-tier cake for our Royal Wedding party.  The children are always excited to join in cooking activities.  We had to use our maths skills to measure, weigh, count and then stack the different sized cakes in the right order to put the cake together.  The children were so careful in placing their flowers and designing the bride and groom for the cake ‘topper’!

We planted a special oak tree to commemorate the special day

In 2012 Nursery were given a tiny oak sapling in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  We have been taking care of this sapling in our Nursery garden and it is now strong and healthy.  We decided to transplant it in one of our Forest School areas to mark the Royal Wedding. Our very own ‘Queen for the Day’ did the honours!  We hope the tree will continue to flourish and grow.
