The Little Red Hen

We welcomed parents into Nursery this week for our first Book Share of the Autumn Term.  With a Harvest theme in mind, we read the story of The Little Red Hen, always a Nursery favourite, and then invited everyone to make a bread roll for snack time.

The children enjoyed using the puppets and props to re-tell their own Little Red Hen stories.

Talk for Writing and Story Maps

These past few weeks we have been developing thee children’s mark-making skills by encouraging them to use circles and lines to draw pictures.  This week we used those circles and lines to draw a Little Red Hen story map, drawing key events from the story.  We practised re-telling the story in our own words and then drew the story map.  What a fantastic job they all did.

Five Currant Buns

The children were very interested in playing with the bread dough which we provided in our Playdough Area.  We mixed a fresh batch of salt dough and made currant buns.  What careful work the children did to paint them after they had been baked.  Next week we will have our own Bakers’ Shop in Nursery and visit the local Bakery.
