Five Currant Buns in a Baker’s Shop
We made lots of different salt dough cakes to add to the currant buns in our Baker’s Shop. The children have had lots of fun pretending to be the Baker and customers. In our Maths activities we have acted out the songs and counted out our coins to buy the buns. One penny buns became far too easy for the children so we changed the prices, worked out how many pennies we would need to buy more than one bun at a time and how many buns we could buy with the change we had left in our purses.
We have talked about paying by cash and card and the children have enjoyed making announcements on the ‘tannoy’ microphone on our toy till!
Out and About
We went into Ellesmere this week to visit a real baker’s shop and also the bakery counter in our local Tesco. Some of us walked and some of us travelled in our school mini-bus. We brought back something to try at snack time from each of our visits – a selection of bread and lots of different types of cakes, cookies and buns! Delicious!
A very big thank-you to the staff at Vermeulen’s and Tesco’s for our visits.
