Year 6 Summer Term Newsletter

Year 6 Spring Term Newsletter

This is the last year of primary school for your child. It is a year of transition, during which you will hopefully see your child develop and mature and be ready to make the leap to secondary school. It’s a great year and we, as a team, are very much looking forward to the hard work, challenges and fun ahead.

Year 6 is the year in which we work towards our SATs tests in May. To ensure that all children have the greatest opportunity for success, we have high expectations of the children’s learning attitudes and behaviour both in-and-out of the classroom.

Swimming and PE

PE days for both Year 6 classes are on Tuesday, with swimming on a Wednesday. All children who are able to be in school are expected to participate in both PE and swimming.

Therefore, all children need to have appropriate kit and understand that we have a no jewellery policy.

Homework will be set on Fridays in the Homework Books. This will be spelling, grammar and maths. Work will usually be related to the learning that week. We also use Mathletics and Times Tables Rockstars, which is a great resource to help children do well in their weekly times-tables tests. We expect children to read regularly and to show understanding of what they have read.

Water Bottles

Children are allowed to have water bottles in class as it is good for them to keep hydrated throughout the day. However, they should only contain water: no juice please!

Class Dojos

We are continuing to use Class Dojos this year. Please use Dojo to contact teachers if there are messages that need to be passed on. We do encourage the children to be more independent now that they are in Year 6, therefore they will be taking responsibility for passing messages to-and-from school as well.

We look forward to working with you to ensure a successful year for your child

Yours sincerely,

The Year 6 teaching team,

Miss Massey and Mrs Gathercole.
