Year 6 – ‘Tokyo’ and ‘Vancouver’
This is the last year of primary school for your child. It is a year of transition, during which you will hopefully see your child develop and mature and be ready to make the leap to secondary school. It’s a great year and we, as a team, are very much looking forward to the hard work, challenges and fun ahead.
Year 6 is the year in which we work towards our SATs tests in May. To ensure that all children have the greatest opportunity for success, we have high expectations of the children’s learning attitudes and behaviour both in-and-out of the classroom.
Swimming and PE
PE, for both year 6 classes is on Monday and Friday, with swimming on a Wednesday for Tokyo and Friday for Vancouver. All children who are able to be in school are expected to participate in both PE and swimming. Therefore, all children need to have appropriate kit and understand that we have a no jewellery policy.
Some changes to P.E. at the beginning of June are:
Monday 3rd June and Monday 10th June – Tokyo forest school session.
Monday 17th June and Monday 24th June – Vancouver forest school session.
Children will have forest school sessions for whole afternoons on these days – a note about suitable clothes will be sent out nearer the time. They will not have P.E. on a forest school day.
Homework will be set on Fridays in the homework books. This will consist of spelling, grammar and maths. Work will usually be related to the learning that week. We also use Mathletics and Timestables Rockstars, which is a great resource to help children do well in their weekly times tables tests. We expect children to read regularly and to show understanding of what they have read.
Children are allowed to have water bottles in class as it is good for them to keep hydrated throughout the day. However, they should only contain water: no juice please!
Class Dojo & Parent Pay
Communication will be sent out through Parent Pay. It is important that this is checked regularly. We are also continuing to use Class Dojo this year as a means of celebrating the children’s successes. Class Dojo can be used to contact teachers if there are messages that need to be passed on. We do encourage the children to be more independent now that they are in Year 6, therefore they will be taking responsibility for passing messages to and from school as well.
We look forward to working with you to ensure a successful year for your child
