Year 5 Summer Term Newsletter

Year 5 Spring Term Newsletter

Children will continue to receive weekly homework in Year 5. This will be set on a Friday and will consist of a spelling list, a piece of additional English work and an online maths activity. The maths activity will be through Mathletics. Please help your child to be prepared and give them a prompt to ensure they have their Homework Diary every Friday.

Where possible, encourage your child to read daily at home, even if it is just five minutes squeezed in. It doesn’t have to be their book from school, it could be a magazine, comic or annual, or anything else they enjoy. Times-table games on Times Table Rockstars will also benefit and help secure with their tables up to 12.

Alongside their weekly homework, we would also like children to complete a half termly project.

Swimming and PE

Both classes have outdoor PE on Thursday. They should have a white t-shirt, blue/black shorts and outdoor trainers. In colder weather children may wear jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.

This year, Istanbul will be swimming on Monday and Moscow on Tuesday. Please encourage your child to take responsibility for ensuring they have the required kit in school. Boys should be in fitted shorts or trunks and girls a one-piece swimming costume. It is suggested that children with earrings leave them out for that day. Children will now need to provide their own swimming cap.

Water bottles

Children are allowed to have water bottles in class as it is good for them to keep hydrated throughout the day. However, they should only contain water: no juice please!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate in coming in to speak to us. Many thanks for your continued support.

As part of the school’s Behaviour Policy we are really excited to be continuing to use Class Dojo. This is a secure online site that allows us to record merits. By connecting with Class Dojo you will be able to see when your child has received a merit, as well as keep up-to-date with events in class through Our Class Story.
