Wow it has been a very busy week this week in Year 1! We started our week off with sports day on Monday. It was great to see so many parents and family members out supporting all of the children in the Key Stage.

The children were brilliant all morning showing fantastic sportsmanship, team work and behaviour. Well done to all of the children for taking part and having a go!

Throughout the week we have been busy developing and sorting our outside area ready for after half term. The children have planted a number of different plants in the flower beds including some strawberry plants. We have put up our greenhouse up ready to grow some more plants as part of our science work.

To celebrate the fantastic behaviour in year 1 this half term we have had a toy afternoon. It was lovely to see the children sharing toys with their friends and playing together.

For homework over the half term children have been given a number of real and nonsense words to read and put sound buttons on. It is the last two week push before the phonics screening begins so please can we ask you to support your child at home through completing the homework and working on the flashcards sent out at the start of the spring term. It can be a quick 5 minutes each day, it doesn’t need to take long. The more practice that they get the more confident they will be during the screening.
