  • Simon Knox, Chair of Governors

    Co-opted Governor until 23rd April 2019

I started as a Community Governor in 2010, and chaired the Finance Committee for a time.
I moved into the area about ten years ago, and all four of my children attended Ellesmere Primary School.
Before moving Ellesmere, I was a project manager in the supply and distribution industry from there I progressed in the IT side of the business. I set up the original school website and wrote the recently updated site.
I enjoy Rugby and have coached junior sides at Oswestry RFC (where I am the current mini and junior chairman) and at Ellesmere Primary School.

  • Lea Winter, Vice Chair of Teaching & Learning Committee

    Co-opted Governor until 23rd April 2019

I became a parent governor shortly after my two children began at Ellesmere Primary School and Ducklings respectively. I attend a variety of meetings as governor and have been the chair of the Curriculum Committee for several years.
I teach Geography at a large local secondary school and sixth form where I was previously subject leader for Geography and Assistant Headteacher for many years. I am now enjoying spending more time back in the classroom whilst being responsible for examinations across the 11-18 age range. I love the outdoors and run an annual school ski trip for key stage three students to the Italian Alps along with the Arthog trip at the end of every academic year for Year 7 students.
My interests include football and skiing and I adore mountain biking too but am finding the uphill slogs an increasing challenge! I have a wonderful wife and two great children and my main interest is spending time with them and enjoying life.

  • Kerry Poynton, Governor

Parent Governor until 17th March 2020

I have lived in Ellesmere for approximately 8 years with my partner and our 3 children. Our eldest now attends Lakelands and we have two younger children, both in the early years of Ellesmere Primary School and who previously attended Ducklings.
I have a very keen interest in the school due to the help and support our daughter receives which also extends to us as a family. I am hoping that, by becoming a Parent Governor, I can give something back.
My employment since leaving school many moons ago has always been in administration and I am now Senior Negotiator within a long established estate agents in Wrexham.

Likes Reading, walking (leisurely), sunny days, holidays and time with my family.

I have been a governor at Ellesmere for 4 years and have one child currently at the school and one that has been through the school. I am a Director of Brownlow Veterinary Group based in Ellesmere and I hope this brings experience to the Governing Body from the business world in terms of back office functions such as Health and Safety. I am also the link governor for Safeguarding. I currently sit on the Finance, Safeguarding and General Purposes Committee.
I am married and my wife sits on the PTA. In my free time I enjoy time spent with the family, particularly outdoors and reading.

  • Alison Utting, Governor

I moved to Ellesmere in 2013 (from St Martins) and my youngest two children are at Ellesmere Primary, having attended Ducklings and Nursery previously. I care deeply about this school, both as the learning environment for my own children and in a wider sense as a vital part of this community.
I am a qualified teacher of English (secondary) although not currently teaching. Over the years, I have worked as a nursery nurse, a retail supervisor and a local government clerk. I also served as a Parish Councillor for many years. I volunteer with several charities that support bereaved families. I enjoy drama, music, walking with my dogs in the hills of Shropshire and Wales, reading, and knitting.
