A Tiger Came To Tea!
This week our Rhyme of the Week has been ‘I’m a Little Teapot’ which we linked with a favourite Nursery story “The Tiger Who Came to Tea.”
We began the week by continuing our learning about healthy eating and talking about a healthy breakfast. We used our fantastic counting skills to measure the ingredients for our morning snack, reading numerals, counting spoonfuls and pieces of fruit.
The tiger in our story drank all the tea. We learned where tea comes from and looked at some tea leaves before we made a cup of tea for ourselves! We also had fun practising forming our letters in tea-leaves!
Our role play area has been a café. The children have been learning about the jobs of chefs, cooks, waiters and waitresses. They have been practising their writing skills by taking orders and writing bills as well as remembering to have good manners when serving customers or thanking the café staff. A group of children also made some fantastic cakes from salt dough to serve in the café.
The children have been very interested in the tiger in the story and where he might have come from. They did some fantastic tiger paintings.
Next week we will learn more about animals – wild and domestic- as we read Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell in preparation for our visit to the theatre to see the live production of the story.
